Charles A. Koczera, 79, of Cumberland, RI formerly of Barrington, RI passed away on January 18, 2026, in RI Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of the late Marlene C. (Sleczkowski) Koczera, and they were married for 59 years.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Stanley and Anne (Olowiecki) Koczera Sr. He resided in Cumberland for over 35 years.
He was a US Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam War.
Charlie was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association and the RI Funeral Directors Association.
He was a member of Fierlit/Korzen Post #79, Central Falls, the Casimir Pulaski Mutual Aid Society, Central Falls, PAMBA, and the Bristol Elks Lodge #1860.
He was first employed as a truck driver for the former Outlet Company in Providence before becoming the proud owner and operator of Karol A. Romenski & Sons Funeral Home in Central Falls. For 54 years, he dedicated his life to serving families with compassion and dignity, retiring just last year. For the past 30 years, he worked side by side with his son, Andrew, continuing the family’s long tradition of care. Before that, he spent many years working alongside his father, Stanley, and his uncle, Bernard Romenski, where he learned the values of service, integrity, and commitment that became the foundation of his life’s work.
He enjoyed traveling, but most of all he loved spending time with his family especially his beloved grandsons.
He leaves his two daughters, Karen A. Gourd and her companion Frank Aveno of Pawtucket, and Kristen L. Stimpson and her husband Charlie of North Scituate; his son, Andrew C. Koczera and his wife Agnieszka of Cumberland; his two beloved grandsons, Thomas C. Koczera and Owen A. Koczera, both of Cumberland. His brother Stanley Koczera Jr., of Lincoln, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Visiting Hours on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, from 4 to 7 PM and continue on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Prayer Service will be held at 10 AM in the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Holy Cross / Seekonk Cemetery, West River Street, Seekonk, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), 360 Westminister Street, Providence, RI 02903.
