PAWTUCKET, RI - Mildred Martina Skoczylas, 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. Mildred was born January 2, 1927 to Martin and Bertha Kasek in Central Falls, Rhode Island, the youngest sister to Helen and Stephanie. She attended Central Falls High School and the Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School.
Mildred was the devoted wife of Mitchell Skoczylas, her high-school sweetheart, for nearly 68 years. They married in May 1949 at St. Joseph Church, and had 3 children-- Jean, Stephen and Paul. They moved from Central Falls to Pawtucket Rhode Island in 1967. She was a devout Catholic and active member of Saint Joseph's Church and the former Saint Leo's.
Mildred was most well known for being the matriarch of Central Falls Provision Company, the family-owned Polish kielbasa business started by her husband's family in 1923. She worked tirelessly at the family business for over 60 years, working alongside her husband and their son Paul. Mildred went to the shop daily until the age of 91.
Mildred is survived by her loving family, daughter Jean Sand and her husband David of Andover, Massachusetts, and two sons, Stephen Skoczylas and his wife Madelyn of New York, New York, and Paul Skoczylas and his wife Marie of Attleboro, Massachusetts. She had six grandchildren, Christopher Sand, Kathryn Lyneis, Jessica Skoczylas, Anne Skoczylas, Christina Skoczylas and Mitchell Skoczylas, and four great-grandchildren, Caroline, Peter and Mary Lyneis and Linnéa Sand.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday December 4, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church 391 High Street Central Falls, RI., followed by a ceremony in the chapel at Notre Dame cemetery in Pawtucket. Calling hours are respectfully omitted for Covid 19 precautions. The family respectfully ask that people attending please wear a mask. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
