VINCENT LAVENDIER Obituary

Vincent Lavendier, of East Providence, R.I. passed away peacefully at Waterview Villa
Rehabilitation and Health Care Center on February 28th, from cancer, at 75 years old. He
was surrounded by loved ones.
Son of the late Charles and Jennie (Hull) Lavendier, he grew up in Pawtucket, spending
summers in East Orleans, on Cape Cod, where he acquired a love for sailing. He studied
film and photography at Art Center College of Design in California, before returning to
Rhode Island.
His creativity took many forms, including music. From childhood until the end of his life, he
was passionate about playing guitar, harmonica (a skill shared by his mother), and singing,
being a featured guest on the Salty Brine TV show as a kid. Busking in Providence and
Newport was a favorite pastime for him in his later years, allowing him to connect with
people and put on a show, two things which brought him joy.
A skilled carpenter, he was known for building indestructible structures, including houses,
furniture, and his favorite, boats. His love of boatbuilding brought him from Maine to
Washington to hone his craft.
Vincent was intelligent, intuitive, charming, full of vitality, and quick-witted with a big sense
of humor and an appreciation for wordplay. He was kind-hearted, generous and
empathetic, especially with those less fortunate than himself. He loved his children and
grandchildren and cherished his time with them, instilling in them the importance of
goodwill, and compassion.
He leaves siblings Carole Talley and husband Gordon of Cambridge, Ma., John Lavendier
and wife Jane of Brewster, Ma., and Mary Myers of Peaks Island, Me., his children Phoebe
Summersquash and husband John Battles, Eve Lavendier-Dike and husband Dikenta Dike,
Charles Lavendier and wife Corinne, William Lavendier and wife Kako, grandchildren Leo
Dike, Trevor Lavendier and Silas Lavendier, ex-spouses and significant others Julie
Summersquash, Roberta Kaufman, and Lyn Russi, and multiple cousins, a nephew,
extended family and friends.
A service in celebration of his life will be held for any friends and family who would like to
attend, on Saturday, March 15th, 9:00-10:30 AM at Karol A. Romenski & Sons Funeral Home
(342 High St, Central Falls, RI 02863), followed by a mass at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Polish
Catholic Church (391 High St, Central Falls, RI 02863). Interment of his ashes will be at Notre
Dame Cemetery at a later date.
