VIOLA SWIADER Obituary

On December 28, 2022,Viola M Swiader passed away at her home in Pawtucket, RI at the age
of 95. She was the devoted wife of the late Bronislaw S. (Ben) Swiader. The couple had been
married for 52 years.
Born April 19, 1927, Viola was the daughter of the late Peter and Frances (Gruszkos)
Jastrzebski and sister of the late Wanda J Moskwa and the late Bernard Jastrzebski. She is
survived by her seven children: Kasia Kidd and her husband Robert of Barrington, Stephen
Swiader and his wife Annie of Smithfield, Michael Swiader and his wife Claudia of Cranston,
Joseph Swiader and his wife Katie of Cold Spring, NY, Mania Mombelly and her husband Curtis
of Wakefield, Paul Swiader and his wife Josten of Douglas, MA, and John Swiader of
Pawtucket. Viola was “Babcia” to 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild and “Ciocia” to a
niece and nephew.
A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, Viola graduated from Pawtucket Memorial School for Nurses in
1948. Her nursing career started at Pawtucket Memorial Hospital. Later in her career, while
employed by the Rhode Island Group Health Association and Harvard Community Health Plan,
Viola completed the necessary requirements to become a nurse practitioner. She retired as a
nurse practitioner from HCHP in 1992. Viola continued to apply her nursing skills after
retirement by accompanying friends and family members to doctor appointments, caring for
family members including her late husband and her late sister and niece, volunteering her
nursing services at annual youth conference meetings at LaSalette Shrine and always being
available to triage her extended family.
Over her lifetime Viola had been an active member of St. Joseph’s Church in Central Falls, St.
Mary’s Church in Pawtucket, and LaSalette Shrine in Attleboro, MA. She taught catechism
classes, served on the Parish council, and performed services as a Lector and Eucharistic
Minister.
Viola learned to sew, knit and crochet from her mother and she was always working on a project
or two or three. She taught herself to refinish and upholster furniture, made beautiful Christmas
wreaths and even made a koi pond in her backyard. Viola’s family will miss her golabki, pies
and cheesecake; playing Hi-Lo Jack (with the 5); her green thumb and jigsaw puzzles; but
especially her strength, wisdom and determination.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday January 4, 2023 at 8:30 AM from the Karol A. Romenski & Sons Funeral Home 342 High Street Central Falls RI with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph's Church 391 High Street Central Falls RI.
